Brief Job Description:
The Technical Editor II performs advanced technical editing work, coordinating the review of compiled information. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Employees at this level may:
• Review and edit technical documents, materials, and reports, and recommend revisions or changes in format, grammar, and accessibility.
• Plan and schedule documentation delivery.
Essential Job Functions (EJF):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
EJF 1: Reviews and edits technical documents, materials, and reports, focusing on clarity and consistency. Review and edit for grammar, spelling, accessibility, and formatting errors. Validate technical accuracy through external resources. (75%)
EJF 2: Maintains records and files in accordance with established processes for storing and routing documents. Use version control tools or folders to track changes. (20%)
EJF 3: Assists with related work or assignments to meet the business needs of the Provider Finance Department (PFD), the Quality Review Unit (QRU), or HHSC as required. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of the techniques and methods of reviewing and editing various types of materials.
- Skill in editing technical and business documents, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a related field is preferred. At least one year of work experience in technical writing and editing is required. Knowledge of HHS processes, procedures, and policies preferred.
Additional Information:
The position is currently eligible to telework up to 3 days per week, but HHSC telework policies may update telework schedules in the future. Successful candidates must be able to report to work in Austin within 2 weeks of being offered the position. Please note that all HHS positions are subject to state and agency telework policies, as well as the discretion of the direct supervisor and business need.
