The Social Worker III position is clinically and administratively accountable to the Social Services Director and Program Director. The SW III functions as an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team on an inpatient psychiatric unit at the San Antonio State Hospital, and provides direct supervision of SW IIs and the overall social service functions/casework on assigned unit(s). Performs organizational, managerial, developmental, and coordination of tasks in harmony with facility procedures and policies to meet the needs of participants, their families and the broader community. Provides practicum instructions to students enrolled in accredited social work education programs. Participates in in-service development projects and consultations to various community groups. May provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conditions and addictions, including severe mental illness in adults. The Social Worker III will follow an assigned caseload of patients through the course of their admission or until their transfer to another unit. Services provided to the patients can include but is not limited to: Social assessments, participating in the diagnosis of patients, recovery/treatment planning, individual and/or group therapies, and continuity of care planning. The provision of treatment can include individual, marital, couple, family, psychoeducational and process group therapy, supportive counseling, direct practice, and psychotherapy, involvement in patient and family education, general casework, and the coordination of aftercare services. Licensed Social Workers are qualified to use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 (DSM 5), the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), and other diagnostic classification systems in assessment, diagnosis and other activities.
