Performs complex and specialized tasks to assist Austin State Hospital in maintenance of an electronic health record (current product is Avatar provided by vendor Netsmart). Provides training and technical support to Avatar users throughout the hospital. Performs ongoing review with users to identify patterns of system usage, training needs, and problems with Avatar including incomplete records, access, and hardware related problems. Proposes resolution to problems identified and works with team to implement solutions. Assists in reviews of Avatar usage and system operations to ensure compliance with Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), HIPAA, and other federal/state entities' requirements, laws, regulations, and policies. Responds to calls and questions and questions from users regarding Avatar. Assists in creating/preparing Avatar policy and procedure documents. Identifies skill sets needed by various user categories and clarifies discipline specific training needs with department heads. Creates appropriate training materials. Identifies legitimate needs for access to Avatar by non-staff including auditors, attorneys, court personnel, DFPS investigators, etc. Assists in physical access for special users. Provides access to ASH Avatar in accordance with requests from other facilities. Works under the general supervision of the Director of Health Information Management with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
